Can We Build It? Yes We Can!

Some of you might remember this line from a popular children’s show a few years back.  But the idea isn’t just for play, it actually has a valid place in business.

Some of you might remember this line from a popular children’s show a few years back.  But the idea isn’t just for play, it actually has a valid place in business.

A while back, we got a call from an international company we had been calling on for some time.  They were a long time customer of our competitor and we hadn’t made much headway into getting their business.  But our competitor was having delivery issues.  Delivery issues that would potentially derail a breathing air emergency pressurization system the company was working on.  So they called us with a challenge.  If we could provide the product in the time frame in which they needed it, we not only would earn that order, but future orders as well.  We had to produce, inspect, assemble, package and ship 3,000 fittings and valves to arrive overseas in 2 weeks’ time.

It was a tall order.  So we got to work.28.jpg

The reason we were able to say “Yes we can!” was due to our company values of TRUE: Truthfulness, Resourcefulness, Unity and Execution.  We had been honest with ourselves and the company when we committed to getting the product to them on time.  This was a big order in a short time frame so we needed to be resourceful in utilizing our people, time and materials, working outside of the box to get this order completed while continuing to fill the orders of all of our other customers.  Unity became the key as we reallocated personnel from other areas of the company to assist in assembly and packaging.  The excitement of accepting the challenge continued to grow as our plan was executed and we got closer to achieving the goal.  It was with great pride in a job well done that we completed the order and shipped it a day earlier than expected.  The company was able to complete their project on time and with great success.  We are privileged to now call them our customer and are looking forward to a long and happy partnership.  And we celebrated with cake and ice cream for everyone!

Having those core values in place as an integral part of how we do business allowed us to accept the challenge from that company without hesitation.  Knowing we can be creative and resourceful when we work together toward a common goal gives us an advantage over our competitors.

Can we build it?  Yes we can!  And we did.
